Reflections on an Incredible Journey to India

So many people have been asking how my trip to India was, so I thought I’d share some highlights in this quick article.
Our journey took us to Hyderabad and Rajahmundry—two stunningly beautiful cities. Partnering with the charity Investors for Change, we had the privilege to witness firsthand some of the groundbreaking work they’re doing and to experience the vibrant culture of India.
Life-Changing Moments
One of the first places we visited were orphanages supported by the charity. What struck me the most was the pure joy radiating from the children. Even when we visited nearby schools, it was almost impossible to distinguish between the children fully supported by the charity and those from local communities. The care and love given to each child was tangible and inspiring.
Another profoundly moving experience was visiting rescue homes for elderly people who had been abandoned or couldn’t care for themselves anymore. Witnessing the team—and even some of us—sitting with these frail, elderly individuals, caring for them in what could be their final days, was deeply humbling. It reminded me that mercy is not just a word but an action.
Hearing stories from the field about the charity’s outreach to remote villages, particularly their work with young girls, was equally inspiring. The education and empowerment they’re providing—teaching girls how to stay safe and take control of their lives—are crucial steps toward systemic change.
A Lasting Impression
When I headed to India, I carried with me Western ideas and hopes, thinking I had some answers. What I learned instead was that the solutions to India’s challenges lie within the incredible resilience and determination of the Indian people themselves. Their work ethic, sense of family, and community care are nothing short of extraordinary.
Yes, their belief systems are different from mine, but so is everything else—culture, challenges, and solutions. The people and the team we worked with taught me a vital lesson: true charity is about emptying oneself to make the biggest impact on those around you.
Looking Ahead
Since returning, one recurring conversation has been: How can we help foster systemic change? One of the gaps we noticed was the need for leadership development. It’s sparked ideas about how we can support this crucial area.
I’d love to hear your thoughts: What have your travels taught you about supporting systemic change and learning from other cultures? Please DM me your stories or observations.
If you’d like to know more about supporting the incredible work of Investors for Change—or better yet, if you run a company and want to partner on some of their transformative projects—please reach out! I’d be happy to connect you with the right people.
A Fun Note
On the lighter side of things, Hyderabad biryani is officially the best curry I’ve ever had! As someone who lived on the Curry Mile in Manchester for two years, I thought I knew good curry, but Hyderabad absolutely smoked it. Sorry, Manchester restaurateurs!
