Yes !! Grid connection reform
“Now that’s not something I thought I’d get excited about when the career advisor asked what I wanted to do with my life…”But here we are — and yes, grid connection reform is on its way.
Absolutely brilliant to see the Government’s Industrial Strategyfinally lining up with what many of us have been saying on the ground.
The infrastructure of our nation, as beautiful and brilliant as it is, needs a serious, strategic upgrade—and fast. It’s encouraging to see that this new strategy acknowledges that growth and innovation can't flourish when grid constraints, planning delays, and outdated regulations are holding businesses back.
We’ve worked with clients across the country who’ve wanted to deploy solar across entire portfolios, only to be told they’re limited by grid capacity or connection delays—“you can only put this much on the roof” or “we can’t take that much power back.” To now see a national strategy directly addressing grid reform, clean tech scale-up, and regional support is genuinely exciting.
Here's what stands out to me as someone delivering consultancy services regionally and nationally:
🔹 Clear backing for eight high-growth sectors (IS-8) including clean energy, advanced manufacturing, digital, and life sciences
🔹 Focused investment in grid reform and energy cost relief for frontier and foundational industries
🔹 Support for Investment Zones, Local Growth Plans, and regional clusters—finally levelling the playing field outside London
🔹 Public finance institutions like the National Wealth Fund, British Business Bank, and UK Export Finance aligned behind long-term, sector-specific growth
🔹 Net zero isn't just mentioned—it’s positioned as a core economic driver, not a side mission!!!
For consultancy firms like ours, the message is clear: the runway is now being cleared for the kind of strategic, impactful work we've long been advocating.
There’s real potential here—but only if businesses are ready to respond, especially as timelines for grid upgrades and energy reforms are already in motion.
If you’re in a sector looking to grow through solar, decarbonisation, or industrial strategy
—this could be your moment.
Let’s talk if you want to align your next move with the national direction of travel.
