Whether you’re a professional in the field or someone considering solar panels for your home or business, this series is designed to provide value and clarity.
Energy Talks: 60-Day Solar Industry Challenge – Day 1
Challenge Accepted!
Hi, I’m Justin Dring—dad of two crazy boys, a commercial energy consultant by day, and an energy freedom fighter by night. This 60-day challenge is more than just about sharing solar industry insights; it’s about stepping out of my comfort zone to teach my kids the value of consistency, leadership, and growth. Leadership starts at home, and I want to show my boys—and my friends and industry peers—that embracing challenges is how we grow, lead, and create lasting impact.
This journey is an opportunity to blend my passion for energy with a mission to empower others. Whether it’s navigating the complexities of solar panels or exploring the latest innovations in renewable energy, I’ll bring you insights, tips, and strategies to deepen your understanding of the energy industry. Together, we’ll push boundaries and make meaningful strides toward a more sustainable future. 🌞
Choosing Solar Panels
Let’s start with a foundational topic: understanding solar panels. With countless types, wattages, and models available, the options can feel overwhelming. For instance, how do you choose between a 450W panel and a 435W panel?
Here’s a key tip: always ask for the data sheet. This document breaks down vital details like performance tolerances, efficiency, and other specs that will influence your decision. Don’t worry if it looks complicated—I’ll be dedicating a future post to explaining how to interpret these sheets with confidence.
How Solar Panels Work
Solar panels harness daylight, not just direct sunlight. While shading can reduce performance, there are techniques to mitigate these issues depending on your roof orientation. Roof size is also a crucial factor: large industrial roofs can accommodate more panels for maximum output, while smaller spaces may require high-efficiency panels to optimize energy generation.
Industry Leadership
John Maxwell’s Law of the Lid reminds us that “leadership ability is the lid that determines a person’s level of effectiveness.” To raise that lid and become an industry leader, we must continually grow, learn, and innovate. This challenge is my way of pushing that lid higher—not just for myself, but for my kids, my colleagues, and everyone looking to make a difference in the energy sector.
Looking Ahead
This is just the beginning. Over the next 60 days, I’ll dive into essential topics like the differences between mono- and poly-crystalline panels, strategies for optimizing solar installations, and insights into how leadership shapes the energy industry.
If there’s something specific you’d like me to cover, let me know! I’m here to empower you with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the solar industry while inspiring a brighter, more sustainable future.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Let’s make this challenge fun, impactful, and a true reflection of what leadership in energy can achieve.
